2 Hours In 2 Minutes. If you tuned in to watch the Ivins City Council meeting on YouTube last night you probably noticed that although the video was beautiful, there was no sound. So, here’s a quick summary.
Note: You can listen to the meeting. It was taped. Just click on the “agenda” link for last night’s meeting on the www.ivins.com website.
There was a presentation on UTOPIA Fiber. See the February Ivins newsletter for more information. This is a service the City is considering if enough residents want to sign on to it.
Cheyne McDonald was appointed to represent the City on the Washington County Solid Waste Board. He has been representing Ivins on it for several years and is Chair of the Board. It has been a demanding position and Ivins is fortunate that he’s willing to continue. It gives our City an over-sized voice on the Board.
Three new members were appointed to the Ivins Arts Commission: Liz Fortney, Sally Jacobsen, and Daphne Schroth. Also, two member od the Commission were reappointed: Connie Gates and Jennifer Pleiki. The Arts Commission is working on some exciting projects we’ll hear more about soon.
The Council approved the creation of the “Ivins Youth Council” for youth in grades 9-11 who live in Ivins. This is a leadership opportunity that promotes youth engagement in our community. Ivins youth will act as advisors to the Mayor and City Council. They will engage in civic and service activities. They will be a voice for Ivins youth on city issues. Please let parents and youth know about this. See the Ivins Youth Council website or contact me for more information. (Click here to download an application.)
The Council discussed the Planning Commission’s recommendations for allowing ground mounted solar in Ivins. The Council appears to be unanimously in favor of allowing ground mounted solar, but had concerns about some issues, particularly screening. There will be a public hearing on this, but until then it would help to get your input.
The Council agreed to provide support for the Ironman World Championship in May and four other Ironman events through 2025.
Dave Robinson reported that the Planning Commission will hold a public hearing about making changes to the City’s requirements for exterior building colors. The public hearing will happen at one of their next two meetings, so watch for it. They have spent a lot of time over many meetings discussing this, so there are clearly difficult issues that would benefit from public input.
Let me know if you want more info about any of these issues.
